LONDON – HII (NYSE: HII), a global defense and technology company, introduced the REMUS 130, a new unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV), at the Oceanology International 2024 conference. The REMUS 130 is the latest addition to the company’s REMUS series of UUVs, known for their durability and modularity.

Designed for a wide range of underwater activities, including data collection, offshore exploration, search and rescue, and mine countermeasures, the REMUS 130 offers advanced capabilities. It features a compact design that can be transported by two people, effortless payload integration, operational depths of up to 100 meters, and an extended battery life of up to 10 hours.

Duane Fotheringham, president of Mission Technologies’ Unmanned Systems business group, stated, “The REMUS 130 is built on the same proven technology platform as the REMUS 300 and offers customers a highly capable vehicle at reduced cost and risk.”

The vehicle’s core electronics, navigation, and communication systems are modernized, with modular, open architecture interfaces that support both wet and dry payloads, including those developed by users. The REMUS 130’s design is intended to drive commonality across the fleet and provide flexibility for mission-specific needs.

HII’s investment in the REMUS 130 is part of its ongoing commitment to advancing unmanned underwater vehicles. The company’s REMUS series has a strong track record, with over 600 UUVs delivered to 30 countries, including 14 NATO members.

HII, headquartered in Virginia with a workforce of 44,000, is the largest military shipbuilder in the U.S. and provides a range of all-domain defense solutions, including ships, unmanned systems, cyber, ISR, AI/ML, and synthetic training.

The REMUS 130’s introduction is based on a press release statement and reflects HII’s efforts to offer cost-efficient solutions with advanced features to its global customer base.
