SAN FRANCISCO and KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Instacart (NASDAQ: NASDAQ:CART), a prominent grocery technology company, and Associated Wholesale Grocers, Inc. (AWG), the largest cooperative food wholesaler in the U.S., have announced the expansion of their partnership. This collaboration aims to enhance e-commerce and same-day delivery offerings to AWG’s member retailers across the United States.

The extended partnership is set to provide more than 800 AWG member retailer locations with access to Instacart’s technology suite, including the AI-powered Caper Carts. Additionally, an extra 2,300 member retailer locations will have the opportunity to adopt these technologies, simplifying the integration process for retailers.

Caper Carts, equipped with computer vision and AI, are designed to streamline the shopping experience by identifying items as they are placed in the cart, enabling customers to skip traditional checkout lines. Shoppers can bag their groceries as they go and pay from anywhere in the store. The smart carts also offer personalized promotions and savings linked to customer loyalty accounts.

Nick Nickitas, General Manager of Local Independent Grocery at Instacart, emphasized the commitment to empowering independent grocers in adapting to the digital landscape. Shelly Moore, Chief Information Officer of AWG, highlighted the value of the partnership in driving growth and customer engagement for local independent grocers.

Retailers utilizing the Instacart platform, such as McKeever’s Price Chopper and Town & Country Supermarkets, have expressed satisfaction with the expansion of their online businesses and the impact of same-day delivery services.

This collaboration underscores Instacart’s role in supporting the e-commerce and delivery needs of grocers, while AWG continues to serve over 3,500 locations in 32 states, with consolidated sales amounting to $12.3 billion in 2022.

The partnership is based on a press release statement and reflects the ongoing efforts of both companies to innovate and provide convenient solutions in the grocery sector.
