SANTA CLARA, Calif. – SoundHound AI , Inc. (NASDAQ: NASDAQ:SOUN) has announced the introduction of its Chat AI Automotive voice assistant to the Japanese market, marking the first integration of generative AI in vehicles in Japan. This technology, which debuted globally in April 2023, is now featured in Stellantis (NYSE:STLA) DS Automobiles and is set to enhance the driving experience with advanced voice-activated functionalities.

Earlier this month, DS Automobiles became the first automaker to incorporate SoundHound Chat AI in full production, offering services in 13 languages across 18 countries. The assistant, named Iris by DS Automobiles, allows users to interact with their vehicles hands-free and access a wide range of information and functionalities, from trip planning and sunroof operation to sports updates and parking information.

The integration of generative AI into the voice assistant enables it to handle a variety of requests, including navigation and weather updates, as well as more complex inquiries related to local attractions, cuisine, and recommendations. SoundHound’s proprietary technology aims to minimize the occurrence of AI “hallucinations,” unreliable responses that can be associated with large language models.

According to Mike Zagorsek, COO of SoundHound AI, the deployment of this voice AI in Japan represents a significant step in advancing in-vehicle technology. He credits the innovation to the commitment of automotive brands like DS Automobiles to shaping the future of vehicle experiences.

Initial data from SoundHound AI indicates a significant uptake in the use of in-vehicle voice assistants with generative AI capabilities, reporting over a 50% increase in usage by drivers and passengers in DS Automobiles. This aligns with the company’s 2023 driver survey, where half of the regular drivers expressed a likelihood to use such technology.

SoundHound Chat AI operates by integrating with third-party generative AI models to deliver seamless conversational experiences, ensuring fast and accurate responses. The system employs CaiLAN (Conversational AI Language) and CaiNet (Conversational AI Network) technologies to select and provide the most appropriate responses across various domains.

The company’s expansion continues as it services over 20 car brands, representing more than 25% of the automotive industry. This announcement is based on a press release statement from SoundHound AI, Inc.
