Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 0.05%

Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Mining and Banking sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.05%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Shiseido Co., Ltd. (TYO:4911), which rose 3.64% or 148.00 points to trade at 4,218.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Daikin Industries, Ltd. (TYO:6367) added 3.30% or 665.00 points to end at 20,845.00 and Toho Co., Ltd. (TYO:9602) was up 2.98% or 146.00 points to 5,048.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Renesas Electronics Corp (TYO:6723), which fell 4.03% or 102.00 points to trade at 2,428.00 at the close. Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (TYO:8031) declined 3.45% or 225.00 points to end at 6,297.00 and MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings (TYO:8725) was down 3.45% or 271.00 points to 7,579.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2537 to 1123 and 210 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.05% to 21.96 a new 1-month high.

Crude oil for April delivery was up 0.31% or 0.24 to $78.17 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in May rose 0.36% or 0.30 to hit $82.51 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.30% or 6.65 to trade at $2,181.95 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.34% to 147.44, while EUR/JPY rose 0.44% to 161.25.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 102.43.
